Leopoldo Antonio Lugones Argüello (13 June 1874 - 18 February 1938) was an Argentine poet, essayist, novelist, playwright, historian, professor, translator, biographer, philologist, theologian, diplomat, politician and journalist. His poetic writings are often considered to be the founding works of Spanish-language modern poetry (not, however, modernismo). Leopoldo Lugones y Argüello (1874-1938): Argentine author, poet, founder of the 'modernista' school, socialist politician, orator was born in the small town Santa María del Río Seco. He moved to Buenos Ayres in 1896. There he befriended poet Rubén Darío, and met and married Juana González.
