In 2012 the Board of Regents approved plans to demolish Robertson Stadium and construct a new stadium on the same site. Construction of the new stadium began in 2013 forcing the Cougars to play at Reliant Stadium that season. Named TDECU Stadium, the Houston Cougars played their first game here on August 30, 2014 against the UTSA Roadrunners.
