She was awarded the Brage Prize and the Nynorsk Literature Prize in 2017, both for the novel Tung tids tale. She received the Dobloug Prize in 2019, and the Fritt Ord Award in 2021. Olaug Nilssen's Tung tids tale (2017) is a novel about speaking to and for the disabled and disarticulate child in the role as mother and caregiver.
