Jun 14, 2022. Renowned Israeli writer and political activist A.B. Yehoshua died at 85, Tel Aviv's Ichilov Hospital said on Tuesday. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday afternoon in Ein Carmel, in Israel's north. Israel's President Isaac Herzog called him "one of Israel's greatest writers" and sent condolences to Yehoshua's family, adding that Yehoshua was born in Jerusalem on December 19, 1936, to a fifth-generation Jerusalem family of Sephardi origin. He attended Gymnasia Rehavia municipal high school in Jerusalem. Afterward, he served as a paratrooper in the Israeli army from 1954 to 1957, seeing action in the 1956 Suez War.
