Sam Brownback. Sam Brownback (born September 12, 1956) is an American politician. He was the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom from February 1, 2018 until January 20, 2021. He served as the 46th Governor of Kansas from 2011 to 2018. Before he was governor, Brownback was a United States Senator and a member of Sam Brownback has spent his life in the service of others. He was born in Garnett, Kansas and raised on the Linn County family farm. At Prairie View High School, Sam was elected state president of Future Farmers of America.
