Celeste Farotti came from humble origins: he was born in 1864 to a farming family in a small Piedmont village near Casale Monferrato. After working as a carpenter, Farotti turned to violin making quite late: it was only around 1895 that he started making his first violins as an amateur, self-taught luthier.
