EXUBERANT MURUGAMALLA !!! Eight kilometers from Chintamani Town is a place called Muruga malai, now called as Murugamalla or Murag-malla. It is a wonderful destination for both the religious and nature lovers alike. The Muktheeshwara Temple at the midst of the hill has been attracting the devotees with it's impeccable 'Puja' rituals. At the foothills is an ancient Shiva temple, built during Paleyagar period. The town is also home to one of the oldest dargahs in Karnataka, the Dargah of Peer Fakir Shah Wali. The Cintamani, also referred to as the Chintamani, is a wish-fulfilling stone that features across both Hindu and Buddhist religions. According to some, it is the equivalent of the Philosopher's Stone in the West.
