Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche. 25-year old Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche was a Haitian native traveling as a second class passenger on Titanic. He accompanied his pregnant wife and their Joseph Phillipe Lemercier Laroche, is the only passenger of African ancestry who died on the ill-fated voyage of the Titanic on April 15, 1912. Laroche, a Paris-educated Haitian engineer, put his pregnant French wife and their two daughters onto a lifeboat; they survived.
