The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established by the Maharashtra State Legislative Act No XX of 1989; assented to by the Governor of the State on the 29th April 1989. The major objectives of the University are as follows. To make higher vocational and technical education available to large sections of the population. Mr. Yashwant Chavan was a great politician and builder of modern Maharashtra. The University was duly recognized by the UGC and is the 5th Open University in India. The Common Wealth of Learning [COL] Canada was awarded to YCMOU. It is the Prestigious Award of "Excellence for Institutional Achievement" for the year 2002. Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University has also started M.Com (English medium) Programme under The School of Commerce & Management. 2.
