Also known as Rock Cemetery, owing to its shallow soil and outcrops of sandstone, Church Cemetery was founded in 1851 on a barren hillside formerly used as a quarry and a place of public execution Introduction. The General Cemetery is in the centre of Nottingham, adjacent to the Arboretum. It occupies part of a long shallow valley which rises gently towards the south-west. Features include a gatehouse built of stucco and brick, a memorial obelisk and a war memorial. The two chapels were demolished in the 1950s. University Park is the University of Nottingham's largest campus at 300 acres. Part of the University since 1929 and set in extensive greenery and around a lake, University Park is conveniently located only two miles from the city centre.
