Kaiarahi Toa have won over 20 golds at nationals throughout the years but the focus now turns to the worlds. In the men's W6 1500m final, Pure OCC was in lane one. Tairāwhiti paddlers dominated the 250-metre races that traditionally close the Waka Ama Sprint Nationals at Lake Karāpiro. In the pinnacle 500m straight events - Pineula Mulivai from Akarana - Auckland North won gold in the Premier Men 500m, and Kaiarahi Toa from Horouta Waka Hoe - Gisborne in the Premier Women 500m.
