Meaning or etymology of Sacsayhuaman. According to the Cusquenian historian Victor Angles Vargas, "Sacsayhuaman" comes from "sacsay" which means to be satiated or to get fed up, and from "waman" which is a falcon. According to this author, the falcon was the tutelary bird of Manco Capac, the first Inca. Cusco was once the capital of the Inca empire, and it contains some of the most notable Inca ruins in Peru. Located high on a hill overlooking Cusco, Sacsayhuaman is one of the most famous Inca archaeological sites in the area. Sacsayhuaman is an Inca complex that was built during the 15th century. Much like Machu Picchu, it contains a citadel Sacsayhuaman, a megalithic site and a grand ceremonial complex perched above Cusco, has long been a source of wonder and intrigue. Its most striking feature is a zigzag wall composed of massive stones, some of which weigh an astonishing 125 tons, transported from a quarry located at least three miles away.
