Sriperumbudur Temple History. This temple was built by Cholas later renovated by Vijayanagara Kings. It is known from the inscriptions that in the year 1572 A.D, Srirangaraya I from Viajayangara dynasty did the temple renovation. In the year 1556 AD, Rama Raya gifted 31 villages to support temple activities. The Golden Vimana was built in 1912 A.D. The temple is built in Dravidian architecture occupies around 1.5 acres (0.61 ha) and has two precincts. It is located in Sriperumbudur, a suburb in Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The temple has a rectangular plan surrounded by 10 ft (3.0 m) high walls, pierced by a seven-tier gopuram, the gateway tower.
