The city of Ankeny bought the land in 2005 and later named DRA Properties LC, a real estate development company founded by Dennis Albaugh, as Prairie Trail's master developer. The development includes about 200 acres of parks and open space and more than 13 miles of trails that connect to commercial districts as well as the rest of the city Prairie Trail, Ankeny, IA is located in the heart of Central Iowa's 670- mile trail system. The 13 miles of trail within the community directly connect to 34 miles already in Ankeny and lead to the regional Gay Lea Wilson, Neal Smith, and High Trestle trails.
