As of the 2016 season there are 16 clubs in the Tippeligaen, six of which are located in Eastern Norway, while six clubs are from Western Norway, and two are from north of the Arctic Circle. During the course of a season, each club plays the others twice, home and away, for a total of 30 games for each club, and a total of 240 games in a season. The 2021 Eliteserien was the 77th completed season of top-tier football in Norway. This was fifth season of Eliteserien as rebranding from Tippeligaen. The season was originally scheduled to begin on 5 April and end on 27 November 2021, not including play-off matches.
