Waties Island, often also called "Waites Island," is one of the last remaining undeveloped barrier islands located along the Grand Strand. It is considered the most northern point on the South Waties Island, sometimes spelled Waites Island, is a largely undeveloped barrier island used for CCU environmental research. In June 2022, a private owner finalized plans to sell the northern Great Escapes Kayak Expeditions is the place to start for a Waites Island tour. The trip runs about four hours and starts at the Cherry Grove Boat Landing on House Creek. Tours are scheduled to catch the outgoing tide, making the trip to the island a leisurely paddle.
