On February 26, 2015, Justice Irene Mambilima became the first woman Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia, having served earlier as the country's first female Deputy Chief Justice from 2008-2015. Mambilima was born on March 31, 1952, in Chiwoko village, located in the Eastern province of Zambia, the first of five children. President Hakainde Hichilema has honoured late Chief Justice Ireen Mambilima posthumously for her outstanding service to the nation when she served as first female Chief Justice of Zambia. Mambilima also served as Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson as well as Zambia Institute of Advanced Education (ZIALE) Council Chairperson among other portfolios.
