It is present in 0.1-0.6% of cerebral angiograms and is usually unilateral. In utero, the trigeminal artery supplies the basilar artery before the development of the posterior communicating and vertebral arteries. About 1 in 3,800 babies are born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome each year in the U.S. This condition accounts for about 2% to 3% of all congenital heart diseases (CHD).
