In 1970, the members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago were living as expatriats in Paris. The group had only recently expanded to its permanent quintet status with the addition of drummer/percussionist Don Moye when they were asked by New Wave director Moshe Misrahi to provide the soundtrack for his movie, Les Stances a Sophie. Joseph Jarman - alto saxophone, bassoon, oboe, flute, percussion. Lester Bowie - trumpet, flugelhorn, percussion. Malachi Favors - bass, zither, percussion instruments. In 1969, the Art Ensemble of Chicago (which had recorded just one official record, Congliptious, as a group at that point in time), moved to Paris for two years and The Art Ensemble of Chicago is an avant-garde jazz ensemble closely identified with the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in the mid 1960s. The group continues to tour and record through 2006, despite the deaths of two of the founding members.
