Because of an editing error, the On Baseball column on Thursday about San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera's being suspended 50 games after testing positive for Melky Cabrera, an outfielder in the Majors from 2005-19, announced his retirement Friday, according to Héctor Gómez of the Dominican Republic's Z101 Digital. The Yankees traded Cabrera to the Braves in December 2009. He appeared in 147 games for the Braves in '10, posting a .671 OPS. He was released that offseason and signed with the Royals. Melky Cabrera was born on Saturday, August 11, 1984, in Bajos de Haina, San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. Cabrera was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 7, 2005, with the New York Yankees.
