In the early 1980s, the park was unkempt and perceived as unsafe by office workers and tourists. Project for Public Spaces began working in Bryant Park by studying its use through observations and interviews. The team, led by Fred Kent and William H. Whyte, mapped the location of all activities—both positive and negative—and interviewed Bryant Park in New York City is a leafy green space in the heart of Midtown Manhattan just a few blocks from Times Square. This nearly 10,000-acre (40 sq km) park runs from 40th to 42nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenue ( map ). It's visited by more than 12 million people each year. Our guides are loaded with expertise on the park's rich history, award-winning design, distinct amenities, and ongoing maintenance efforts. Tours are held every Wednesday, year-round (weather permitting), and last approximately 45 minutes.
