Roland and Almita Vamos, a husband and wife team who are among the leading violin and viola teachers in the world, will join the artist faculty at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts in the fall of 2015. I first met Almita Vamos over a telephone connection at the studios of WOSU-FM in Columbus, Ohio, where I interviewed her for a From The Top special report. I was in Ohio for a show taping, and Mrs. Vamos had kindly agreed to talk to me from the studios of her home station WFMT-FM in Chicago about 17-year-old violinist Siwoo David Kim, who drives 14 hours every weekend for a lesson with her at Mrs. Vamos has received many impressive and well-regarded awards throughout her career as a violinist: She has won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching six times, and the ASTA (American String Teachers Association) Distinguished Teacher of the year Award.
