For the first time since 1927, the City of Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities will buy its power from a new provider, the South Carolina public power utility recently reported. The DPU announced that as of Jan. 1, 2024, Duke Energy Carolinas LLC is its new power supplier. The City of Orangeburg's proposed $27.8 million spending plan for the 2021-2022 DPU will transfer about $7.2 million of this to the city's general fund budget, leaving the utility about $5.1 Orangeburg DPU was founded in 1927 and has only had one provider, currently known as Dominion Energy but previously known as SCE&G and before that, Broad River Power.
