Plans to fully electrify the Barrhead to Glasgow railway line have been given the green light, with work set to get underway in April. The £63million project is due to be completed by December 2023. It will support passenger and freight services and will also be used as a key diversionary route for cross-border trains. Passengers boarding at Popeyes has announced it is opening a new branch in Barrhead, Glasgow as it plans to expand in the UK this year. The Louisiana-style chicken restaurant announced it is opening seven new UK restaurants in 2023, alongside its 17 existing branches. Popeyes launched in the UK in 2021 when the first store opened in Stratford's Westfield Shopping Window to the Past: Bridgebar, Barrhead. This area of Barrhead was known as Bridgebar. The building on the far left was one of the oldest on Glasgow Road. During the 1950s and 1960s, it was known as Bennett's. The picture dates from circa 1920 and as you can see the horse and cart was still the preferred mode of transport.
