Box 111 Tampa, FL 33601-0111 Big Bend Power Station is a major coal-fired power plant, located across Tampa Bay from Tampa, Florida, United States, on nearly 1,500 acres (6 km 2) in southwestern Hillsborough County, close to Apollo Beach.It is owned and operated by TECO Energy.Three similar units (each 445.5 MWe nameplate capacity) were launched in the early 1970s, followed by a newer 486-MWe unit 4 in 1985. In 2023, when the Big Bend modernisation is complete and all 650 MW or so of planned solar PV capacity is installed, more of Tampa Electric's power will be generated from solar than from coal, which will contribute a mere 2% to the total.
