Several prognostic indices have been proposed in Perthes disease. Major milestones were the introduction of the Catterall and lateral pillar classifications (Catterall 1971, Herring et al. 1992), attempting to predict the final radiographical outcome at an early stage of the disease.Catterall was the first to emphasize the relationship between the extent of femoral head involvement and final Management of Perthes' disease. The main complication of Perthes' disease is femoral head deformation. Evidence from the literature highlights two important factors related to the cause and timing of this complication.
