The parish includes the village of Saxelbye and the hamlet of Shoby. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 294. [1] This parish was an "ancient parish" of Leicestershire until 1428, when it became an extra-parochial area. In 1858, the parish was formally established as a Civil Parish. In April, 1936, the parish of Shoby was abolished to enlarge Grimston Civil Parish. The former parish has been merged into the Grimston, Saxelby and Shoby parish.
