Rachel Donelson was born in 1767 in Pittsylvania County, situated on the western frontier of Virginia. She was the eighth of 11 children born to the Tennessee pioneers, John and Rachel Donelson. When Rachel was 12 years old, her father led her family, along with a large group of others, on a flotilla down the Cumberland River for nearly 1,000 Born - June 15, 1767 in Halifax County, Virginia. Parents - Colonel John Donelson & Rachel Stockley Donelson. Married - 1791 to Andrew Jackson (first married to Lewis Robards in 1785, divorced 1793). Children - none; adopted Andrew Jackson, Jr. (1809-1865) from Rachel's brother. Died - December 22, 1828 in Nashville, Tennessee.
