This firm, specializing in litigation, insurance law, real estate law and business law, thus became the largest French-speaking law firm in the world. Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada commemorates Grand-Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1762. In designating Grand-Pré as a national historic site in 1982, the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada also recognized the strong Grand-Pre history. Acadians were the descendants of French settlers who had arrived in the region now known as Nova Scotia - which became part of a larger area known as Acadia - in the 17th century. They had a large and prosperous community in Grand-Pre.
