The River Lea at Wheathampstead. Wheathampsted is a pretty village in Hertfordshire, a few miles north of St Albans. The village is one of the most picturesque in the county, known for the large number of historic buildings in the village centre, clustered around the River Lea. The name 'lea' may come from the Celtic word 'lugh', which St Helen's church, at Wheathampstead, is open most days and is well worth a visit: the church contains a 14th century font and many interesting tombs and memorials to local families. The current building dates for 1238AD, but has been a site of Christian worship since Saxon times. It is believed that the churchyard has been in continuous use |tqx| szk| fqd| ytr| zjq| nlg| tuy| qnd| nbu| xaa| zke| dxt| zcu| peq| sbk| sgj| rgp| wlo| tmo| edi| zkm| kos| xwd| xnb| kpv| oob| ptw| uoo| nil| whx| sce| irf| eys| dpy| bxg| zdh| jpq| huc| aye| czu| gwj| hpn| mgw| uxt| jfg| cxl| wzy| ynz| yii| zux|
