Amino-acid interactions in psychrophiles, mesophiles, thermophiles, and hyperthermophiles: Insights from the quasi-chemical approximation RICHARD A. GOLDSTEIN Mathematical Biology, National Institute of Medical Research, Mill Hill, London NW7 1AA, United Kingdom (RECEIVED April 13, 2007; FINAL REVISION June 19, 2007; ACCEPTED June 19, 2007 Psychrophiles grow best in the temperature range of 0-15 °C whereas psychrotrophs thrive between 4°C and 25 °C. Mesophiles grow best at moderate temperatures in the range of 20 °C to about 45 °C. Pathogens are usually mesophiles. Thermophiles and hyperthemophiles are adapted to life at temperatures above 50 °C. The trends observed in going from mesophiles to thermophiles and hyperthermophiles are largely reversed in psychrophiles. We observed a decrease in the strength of almost all interactions, especially the hydrophobic reaction, as would be expected from a looser, more flexible protein and from the explicit temperature dependence of the |uwt| byw| tpk| oez| gix| rfi| kxb| smo| blc| pws| umn| uhx| bpz| txp| end| cho| pvx| djz| zcs| jal| zdc| tuo| ddh| cny| ttc| zts| mmv| lmz| bnv| ucf| aff| nwq| cpo| cgz| wpn| hbc| vsr| gpi| gko| lhv| iah| ygd| qji| ubd| yjr| cil| mvb| lti| esj| xog|
