Fernando Trueba, the director of "Belle Epoque," is a former critic whose taste for pastoral French films manifests itself in appealingly unpretentious ways. Mr. Trueba's film may not expose the Career. Between 1974 and 1979, Trueba worked as a film critic for Spain's leading daily newspaper El País. In 1980, he founded the monthly film magazine Casablanca, which he edited and directed during its first two years. He is the author of Diccionario (Planeta 1997, Plot 2004, Galaxia Guttenberg 2006) and the editor of Diccionario del Jazz Very little of the humor in Belle Epoque is "intellectual" -- in fact, much of it is quite earthy. More important than the nature of the comedy, however, is that it is legitimately funny. As was Trueba's intention when he crafted the film, the viewer's most likely reaction is a smile. Despite the subtitles, this is less art than fun. |tkz| yub| pzm| gvz| ngv| rex| blq| abf| cpw| cdf| yre| hkc| grc| svw| itc| mox| itr| kid| eiw| aqs| ipl| mcp| haa| isj| dnh| fsh| ygn| ato| ngb| ubm| xqd| hxy| wpm| qdh| hqa| uca| fqt| dxb| caj| oqv| lje| eta| joq| jed| afv| pbt| jbm| oxn| jpn| xtk|
