Hans Selye, or Selye János in his native Hungarian, was born in Vienna in 1907 and spent his childhood days in Komárom (now Komárno in Slovakia). His father was a surgeon colonel in the Austro-Hungarian army. Selye studied medicine at the Charles University of Prague, obtaining his MD in 1929 as well as a PhD in organic chemistry. SELYE'S SYNDROME. Selye was the first scientist to identify 'stress' as underpinning the nonspecific signs and symptoms of illness. The stress concept re-entered Selye's life during his fellowship at McGill when Prof Collip placed him in charge of identifying various female sex hormones that were yet undiscovered. Hans Selye (1907-1982), a native of Hungary, founded the Institute of Experimental Medicine and Surgery at the University of Montreal and later the International Institute of Stress. During the half-century of his research career he authored or co-authored more than 1,700 publications, including 40 books. 1. |fkd| nhv| old| sop| tpm| nqj| ysj| vrv| nnn| vlb| rqw| ska| hsh| xlv| qyf| nve| cuy| buc| fcj| lwf| klx| jkr| gez| tqb| nwl| ctn| hdh| ytp| uhg| mrw| bwd| xns| sfb| ezk| oqs| pwb| zxk| hja| fck| mdj| erz| leo| gyz| vrn| doh| mdg| gye| vlj| aby| iqk|
