Our Story. Le Gavroche opened its doors in 1967 under the auspices of the legendary Roux brothers, Albert Roux OBE and the late Michel Roux OBE. Known as "the last bastion in London of classically rich French haute cuisine" Le Gavroche became a London institution, internationally recognised for its culinary excellence and unparalleled Le Gavroche was opened in 1967 by Albert and Michel Roux Snr. At the time it was the only French restaurant of its kind in London - offering the very best of classical French food with the highest standards of cooking and service. Run by Albert's son, Michel Roux Jr, from 1991, Le Gavroche the restaurant on Upper Brook Street closed its doors Visiting London this past September, my family and I wanted to experience a wonderful meal which led us to Le Gavroche. This historic, Michelin 2-star restaurant was first opened by Michel and Albert Roux and now Albert's son, Michel Jr. runs the kitchen with mastery.
