Alina Szapocznikow (1927-1973) Alina Szapocznikow was a prominent Polish post-war artist, and one of the most original sculptors of the 20th century. Her use of new materials both developed and questioned the very concept of sculpture. From 1963 onwards, she lived in Paris, where she created her own language to deal with memories of her New York's Andrea Rosen Gallery announced today that it now represents the estate of Alina Szapocznikow. On October 30, the Chelsea gallery will open its first solo show of the Polish-born artist Well-known in Poland, where her work has been highly influential since early in her career, Szapocznikow's compelling oeuvre is ripe for art-historical reexamination. Alina Szapocznikow: Sculpture Undone, 1955-1972 offers a comprehensive overview of this important artist's work at a moment when international interest is blossoming.
