Sun Temple, Gwalior. Surya Madir or Sun Temple is the abode of Sun God. It is a place of worship. It is a relatively newly built temple which attracted a lot of pilgrims within a short span of time. It is modelled on the Sun Temple of Konark in Orissa. It is made of red sandstone and marble in the architectural style of the Konark Temple. The Sun Temple, also known as Surya Mandir, is a magnificent architectural wonder located in the city of Gwalior, within the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Inspired by the famous Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, it was constructed in 1988 by the renowned industrialist G.D. Birla. The temple is also called Vivaswan (synonym of Surya) Temple or Birla Sun Temple, which is a replica of the famous Sun temple in Konark. This is a small drop in the ocean of the philanthropic works of the Birla family. Its foundation stone was laid in 1984 by G.D.
