Richard Peele was granted an emergency commission on 1 April 1944 serving with the Parachute Regiment. He qualified as a parachutist His third son, Lord Robert DeCourcy established the family homestead in Normandy at Courcy, (Calvados) a few miles from Duke William's base in Falaise, Normandy. In 1066, William the Conqueror successfully invaded England with a group of royal Norman knights which included Richard DeCourcy, then Lord Courcy.
