Jeffrey Nye Mangum [2] [3] (born 24 October 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who gained prominence as the founder, songwriter, vocalist and guitarist of Neutral Milk Hotel, as well for his co-founding of The Elephant 6 Recording Company. [4] Mangum is characterized for his complex, lyrically dense songwriting, exemplified Robert Schneider, Will Hart, Bill Doss and Jeff Mangum grew up in Ruston, La., spending much of their youth making music on four-track recorders. In the early 1990s, the friends formed the Elephant Six Recording Company, releasing their first 7-inch EP in 1993, by Schneider's band, the Apples in stereo.
