In 2016 I spent a year living in the province of Central Java, where I taught English at a military boarding school in Semarang, a port city on the northern coast. Yogyakarta, known as Jogja by locals, is a city located in Central Java and is a great base for exploring the surrounding area. The city itself is famous for its traditional Javanese culture, batik fabrics, and delicious cuisine.
