This is a fantastic hike, visiting several prominent hills around Old Balkello. Starting from a car park just north of Old Balkello, this trail heads through Balkello Community Woodland, along the flank of Aucherhouse Hill, up towards Scotston Hill. After tackling this first hill, the trail then continues eastward, visiting the summits of Aucherhouse, Belkello and Craigowl Hills along the way 5.98km from Auchterhouse Hill. Tealing Earth House is not a dwelling, but a stone-lined souterrain, an iron age underground passage, the purpose of which is widely debated. When it was discovered in the 1800s, a magnificent cup-and-ring marked stone was found re-used in one of its walls.
