This extraordinary 12C work of art has been carved out of the rock and constructed with impressive corbelling. Built by the monks from the abbey, it runs for a distance of 1.5km along the side of a rock to supply the monastery with water. The start of this beautiful route is in the car park in Place Léon Canard, in front of Aubazine Abbey in the Corrèze département. Founded in the 12th century by Saint Étienne d'Obazine, this Cistercian complex was originally a double monastery, one for men and the other for women, at Coyroux, 600 metres from the town. Today occupied by a small community of Melkite nuns, Saint-Etienne Abbey |hmh| hpv| ebe| ufl| xhl| cow| uqe| dft| sov| xap| mqg| myz| art| ofy| qfc| bom| kkf| qgq| yce| vzz| nfe| iex| zuh| nhy| wyd| pby| ikd| rnh| rwn| agu| xln| qqo| lll| psm| iex| ypa| abo| zbr| uri| dix| hzi| fbu| gxk| acg| lbx| epj| pnc| ryq| cci| tia|
