Opposite the restaurant is the reason to pay a visit to Goodwins Court - a lovely row of Georgian houses with original wooden shop fronts. They were built around 1690 but the passageway itself is much older and was previously known as Fishers Alley. Once you pass the restaurant the walls opposite these Georgian houses are very plain. A Brief History of Goodwin's Court. The earliest mention of Goodwin's Court is in 1690, around the point at which it evolved from Fisher's Alley that had stood on the same spot previously. The houses on the south side of the Court are thought to date from this period, although their bulging rounded bays actually date back to the 18th century. This charming piece of London offers a window into the past with gaslit lamps, ornate window fronts, and exclusive foot traffic fit for Charles Dickens and eras past. According to a plaque at the entrance of the alleyway tells us that Goodwin's Court was built in 1690 (Wow!) and was previously known as Fishers Alley.
