In the first century BC, King Burebista united the various Dacian tribes and in the process established the capital at Sarmizegetusa in the Orăştie Mountains. The Dacian monarchs created a large and potentially Ancient historians described them as a mysterious people, barbarians who knew how to make themselves immortal.
