The original Transbay Terminal at First and Mission streets, opened in 1939 and was a regional transit hub for over 60 years. It was closed in 2010 to make way for a new world-class transit center that will serve the region. While construction of the new Salesforce Transit Center took place, a Temporary Transbay Terminal served Muni and AC Connecting California. The Portal will open up new Bay Area connections including extending Caltrain and bringing high-speed rail system. Completion of the Transit Center and other milestones makes The Portal primed and ready to move forward. The Portal supports environmental goals and provides economic benefits for a more sustainable and The Salesforce Transit Center is San Francisco's new regional transit hub. The multi-level building features a rooftop public park, service for five bus systems, art installations, retail shops, restaurants, a gym, pop-up shops, and more.
