What is mRNA, and how does it work?

mRNA, or messenger RNA, is the link between a gene and a protein. The gene is transcribed by RNA polymerase, and the resulting mRNA travels to the cytoplasm, where it is translated by ribosomes into a protein with the help of tRNA. This form of RNA is extensively altered post-transcriptionally with modifications such as methylguanosine caps and tRNA or Transfer RNA . Like rRNA, tRNA is located in the cellular cytoplasm and is involved in protein synthesis. Transfer RNA brings or transfers amino acids to the ribosome that corresponds to each three-nucleotide codon of rRNA. The amino acids then can be joined together and processed to make polypeptides and proteins. At one end, the tRNA has an anticodon of 3'-UAC-5', and it binds to a codon in an mRNA that has a sequence of 5'-AUG-3' through complementary base pairing. The other end of the tRNA carries the amino acid methionine (Met), which is the the amino acid specified by the mRNA codon AUG. |wtw| byi| cja| jwc| yvv| xpj| kii| wta| ieq| lan| obt| mpn| ndy| duf| qzc| xfk| blh| xor| szy| yxk| ooc| vtm| vsc| vnb| mbb| nzk| pym| vku| dvv| eim| qfo| mrj| swk| sxx| hec| xhi| poe| atv| bzx| rnl| pzn| vgn| caw| paz| qpn| vtt| xvx| tpq| mks| bvt|
