This is the longest, deepest canal tunnel in the UK - and it can be found just outside of Manchester. Three and a quarter miles long, and almost 200 metres underground, Standedge Tunnel forms part Day 2 of the Pennine Way made easier by track straight down to this welcoming cosy, down to earth Diggle Hotel. Great beers, food and accommodating hosts. Lovely fluffy towels, clean rooms and really friendly helpful staff.
