The San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center, Inc., (d.b.a., The Center) is the nation's second oldest and one of the largest LGBT community centers. Functioning as the LGBT community's anchor organization, The Center is led by a 15-member board of directors, employs more than 50 paid staff and utilizes more than 1000 3780 Park Blvd., Hillcrest (1984-2004) Gay bars are fairly rare these days: Only about a dozen are still open in the city of San Diego. But our region was home to many dozens of gay bars over the eight decades since World War II, according to the 2018 KPBS documentary " San Diego's Gay Bar History .".
