Kaputt is a 1944 autobiographical novel by the Italian writer Curzio Malaparte. Plot. The book was inspired by Malaparte's experiences as a war correspondent at the Eastern Front of World War II. It presents itself as Malaparte's personal witness account of intense violence and cruelty, but the content is largely fictional. Kaputt is a German word coming from the Jewish language. This title was given by Curzio Malaparte (since 1925 pseudonym of Kurt Suchert, of Saxon father and Lombard mother) to his second novel published in 1944. The Adelphi edition appeared in 2009. In the preface he wrote that hoped in the renaissance of Western Europe thanks to the new Curzio Malaparte.
