The Lan Su Chinese Garden is a tranquil oasis in Portland's downtown. The Lan Su Chinese Garden occupies an entire city block in downtown Portland, at 239 Northwest Everett Street (check hours & admission).. This stunning garden opened in September 2000, after 70 workers from the historic Chinese city of Suzhou spent a year in Portland creating it.
The Lan Su Chinese Gardens is a lovely place to regain some inner peace and admire the gorgeous gardens. The name of the garden comes from the relationship between sister cities Portland and Suzhou. Sounds from both Portland and Suzhou are combined to form "Lan Su." In Chinese Lan translates to orchid and Su means "Arise" or "Awaken" so the name is interpreted poetically as "Garden
