Hike from lowland to alpine terrain amid wildflowers and wildlife, enjoying panoramic views from the summit. Mountain summit open July to late October. The Tablelands are an ophiolite complex. These complexes occur when an oceanic tectonic plate collides with a continental plate. Since continental plates are much thicker, the oceanic plate is crumpled and pushed up on top of the continental plate. This movement can actually pull some of the Earth's mantle with it, creating an ophiolite like Tablelands hike. A highlight of our visit to Gros Morne for sure. Tablelands is a surreal, beautiful hike on the earth's mantel. Great for all levels of hikers, we hiked past the end point and the views were amazing. Highly recommend. Visited July 2023.
